10 Easy Labor Day Recipes

Looking for ways to make Labor Day recipes fun, delicious, healthy, and easy?

You’re in the right place.

A traditional Labor Day menu is full of fruit and colorful salads, which is one of the reasons I love preparing food for this special holiday.

Labor Day BBQs are also traditionally full of hot dogs, burgers, and potato salads heavy with eggs and mayonnaise, which anyone who is focused on healing their body might be avoiding.

But, as I shared in my blog, Top 16 Healing Recipes, being healthy doesn’t mean depriving yourself of good food!

Preparing healthy Labor Day meals doesn’t have to be hard work or boring. Moms and dads who have kids returning to school have enough on their plate without having to plan a complicated Labor Day menu.

I’ve collected my top 10 easy Labor Day recipes for you below so you can celebrate fully without worrying about overdoing it on fried or fatty foods!

10 Easy Labor Day Recipes

Potato Air FriesPotato Air Fries
Everybody loves the crispy satisfaction of French fries, and when homemade, this classic American side dish is elevated to a whole new level. My air fries recipe takes away the oil and the frying but leaves nothing out as far as flavor goes.

This recipe is prepped and ready in minutes and will be a huge hit at your Labor Day cookout. Come prepared with a simple homemade ketchup of tomato paste, maple syrup, and your favorite herbs and spices as an extra bonus!

Muneeza AhmedFestive Pasta Salad (Fat-free optional)
No Labor Day recipes menu is complete without at least one type of pasta salad. This recipe delivers not only on flavor but also on fresh colorful ingredients and sky-high healing benefits.

You won’t miss those cubes of cheese or that heavy sauce that you’re used to having on pasta salad. This simple, easy-to-make option will have everyone coming back for more without feeling stuffed afterward!

Muneeza AhmedDelicious Pakora Waffles
Versatile and so satisfying, this simple homemade waffle recipe is a staple in my house for every meal of the day, including snacks! Crunchy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside, these light and flavorful waffles incorporate Indian/Pakistani spices and chickpea flour for a special healthy treat that anyone would enjoy. I guarantee your Labor Day cookout guests will be asking for this recipe within a few bites.

Muneeza AhmedButternut Squash Mac and Cheese
Mac and cheese is classic American comfort food – perfect for Labor Day – but it doesn’t have to be unhealthy. This mac and cheese incorporates gluten-free pasta options with glucose and mineral-rich butternut squash and chlorophyll-rich peas. The cashew sauce base is linked here.

Busy moms and dads will rejoice at the ease and simplicity of this healing dish, with only five ingredients. And kids will be shocked at how delicious eating their vegetables can be!

Muneeza AhmedChickpea Salad Sandwiches
Something I wrestle with as a mom of three is my kids’ lunches. Now that kids are going back to school (can you believe summer is already over?!), health-conscious parents worldwide work extra hard to send their kids to school with yummy foods that are good for them.

Light and flavorful, these sandwiches are perfect for the lunchbox and a beautiful addition to your staple list of Labor Day recipes.

10-Easy-Labor-Day-Recipes-Content-Image-001Super Delicious Wraps
It can be tough to avoid gluten in common Labor Day recipes, but with a little creativity, it’s amazing how easy it can be to make healthy replacements for bread and grains at home!

These potato-based wraps have the most amazing texture and are totally customizable so that you can fill them with all of your favorite flavors! They also store and travel well for easy transportation to your favorite local park for a beautiful Labor Day picnic.

Muneeza AhmedHomemade Fruit Leather
Giving kids a simple healthy snack to take on the go can be challenging, which is why I love this recipe. Easy to make and delicious to eat, my three girls love sharing this homemade treat with their friends. And I can relax knowing no hidden ingredients are going into their bodies.

BBQ Maple Chaat Vegetable SkewersBBQ Maple Chaat Vegetable Skewers
Many people believe that Labor Day recipes aren’t complete without a grill involved! If that’s you, here is the recipe you’ve been waiting for. Combining classic Labor Day BBQ spices with a dash of Pakistani chaat spice, these beautiful vegetable skewers could not be easier or more packed with flavor.

I love the flavor of freshly roasted tomatoes and that satisfying explosion of juicy salty flavor that comes with biting into a tomato fresh off the grill. You won’t be looking around for corn on the cob with these skewers on-hand.

Muneeza AhmedClassic Potato Salad Vegan Style
Summer isn’t summer without a potluck, and a potluck isn’t a potluck without potato salad. So often, though, anyone avoiding eggs, dairy, and soy has to stay away from the potato salads prepared by most delis or home cooks.

This creamy, flavor-packed summer potato salad will satisfy the most picky palate with the perfect blend of textures and spices.

Muneeza AhmedHealthy Chips Ahoy Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
You read that correctly: a gooey, satisfying chocolate chip cookie recipe that’s actually healthy! Replacing wheat flour with the perfect gluten-free flour blend, butter with coconut oil, and milk with apple sauce, these vegan cookies will put a smile on all of the kids in your life – kids in age and kids at heart!

I love the look on people’s faces when they try these cookies. Their expressions go from skepticism to joy as they bite into these healthy alternatives to an American classic. What’s a Labor Day BBQ without something sweet to cap the meal?

Labor Day Traditions

I love the tradition of Labor Day.

Before I moved to the United States, I was always intrigued by this American holiday which fell around the same time that kids returned to school. It felt like it was the perfect bookmark end to summer – a long weekend to celebrate together before work and school resumed.

As I learned more about the history of Labor Day and how it reflects American values of individual freedoms, equality, and fair treatment, I embraced it even more, and it has become a very special celebration for me and my family.

Let the diversity of the American experience be reflected in our Labor Day recipes too. Share on X

There is no reason vegans can’t eat with carnivores and vegetarians around the same picnic table. It’s all about personal choice and what’s best for each of us.

I wish each of you a beautiful holiday celebration as you soak up the final moments of summer with your loved ones. May the season ahead bring you happiness, fulfillment, peace, and above all, health.

To your health and healing,

Muneeza
