Mineral-Rich Asparagus Dip for Spring
My asparagus dip is a great option for spring when it is first coming into season… there is a small unofficial challenge that happens within the Medical Medium every spring where you eat 1 bunch of asparagus every day in April- if you partake and want a recipe to change things up this is a great recipe!
Because it is packed with greens, sprouts, garlic, onion, and dates, and is fat-free, this dip is a healing recipe. All of these ingredients will impart minerals, health building blocks, vitamins, and alkalizing support to your body. The dates have enough glucose to help with the absorption of all the nutrients, and the lemon, garlic, and herbs give it a bright and tangy flavor- almost like a distant cousin of chimichurri.
I’ve outlined below in the recipe how I personally make this dip. You can add whichever herbs you prefer in place of basil such as dill or parsley. There’s a lot of room for personal preference here. Adjust the amount of lemon you add to taste. I like to use a TON of garlic- this is nature’s great antibiotic and it really kicks up the anti-pathogen qualities. If you are sensitive to garlic, feel free to halve this amount.
Another option is to add tomato- if you like a more watery dip and the taste of tomatoes this option is for you! If you are unsure how you would like it, chop up tomatoes and have them on the side. If you would prefer it, you can add cauliflower and tomatoes and 1 (or 2) sweet components like mango and/or dates or honey at the end instead of asparagus. Just go with your gut!
If you need a boost in healing foods this is a great option to turn to. If you are feeling behind in your greens consumption or want something easier to eat than a big salad, food processing makes it possible to get a lot of nutrients into a condensed form! Spread it over any of my flatbread recipes, and add tomatoes, carrots, pepper, and more sprouts or herbs for a complete meal. Eat with crudite as a dip or snack.
Asparagus
Asparagus contains fountain-of-youth properties, is a toxin dispeller, and will fight off other toxins from settling in again. It has strong anti-cancer properties, and its high mineral content makes it great at supporting and recovering your adrenals.
If you are under stress look to asparagus- its B vitamin content will help replenish you during a stressful time. Want more anti-aging support from asparagus? Try this Medical Medium Asparagus Soup.
Leafy Greens
Leafy greens are a highly alkalizing food for the body, in particular the digestive system and the lymphatic system. They gently scrub the digestive system moving toxins, waste, and pathogens out of the body. The same can be said for the heavy metals, pathogens, and mold that are cleansed from the lymphatic system: leafy greens are a great cleanse for this system. The lymph can become the most acidic system in the body, so the leafy greens’ purifying abilities are really important here. This effect helps alkalize other systems in the body.
Dates
Dates are an ideal food for people with blood sugar disorders as they restore the glucose to the liver and brain that these disorders affect. They are also great at restoring digestive health as they sweep away pathogens, toxins, and heavy metals, and help restore proper digestive movement after dysfunction- this ensures proper digestion. They are high in glucose and a great food for athletes as they fuel activity, restore muscles, and stave off the effects of lactic acid. Looking for a place to order dates in bulk? Try 7 Hot Dates, they are an organic family-operated farm in California that grows 7 incredibly delicious varieties.
Other Recipes for a Compelete Meal:
My potato and cassava gluten-free flatbread recipe would be a great addition to this dip- spread it over and add whatever toppings you like. A couple of these would make a great meal.
My potato air fries could complete this meal, add more heartiness, and keep you grain-free.
