Gathering in sacred circles to share stories, pass down wisdom, and connect is a tried and true human tradition- it goes back ages. Think sitting around a fire and how far back in time that goes. There is something ancient and powerful about sitting in circle and listening to one another, it doesn’t demand action or ask for solutions, instead a sacred circle just asks for your presence.
An Ancient Tradition of Gathering in Circle
Sacred circles are not a new concept. Long before modern wellness culture gave them a name, human beings gathered in circle to process grief, mark transitions, and hold one another through the tender and difficult chapters of life. This is one of the oldest healing traditions that exists — and it is as relevant today as it has ever been.
Why Storytelling Is a Healing Tradition
Storytelling takes vulnerability. When you share a snapshot of your life with others, something shifts. There is something about being heard in a safe space that changes how we see ourselves. There is something about witnessing others that creates validation.

Story sharing inside a sacred circle is not casual conversation. It is a confidential space designed to help you slow down and soften your walls. When each person is deeply heard, connection increases, clarity emerges, and healing can begin.
The Purpose and Structure of Sacred Circles
Every sacred circle begins with a purpose, and this should be made very clear. The most powerful topics are simple enough that deep inquiry can carry them further. A well-held circle creates a structured space for sharing — facilitated with personal integrity — where you can lean into vulnerability without feeling the need to edit yourself.
Sacred circles are not fix-it sessions. They are not teaching calls. They are spaces where every emotion has room and every story is welcome.
Listening is about focusing fully on the person in front of you. What can you learn, or what can you gain from listening to their story? It is important to remember that in sacred circles it is less about responding to others and more about hearing what is truly being said, receiving what you need, and filling your cup back up. It is less about a back-and-forth type of conversation. This type of interaction takes listening with an open heart.
The Power of Listening With an Open Heart
Listening inside a sacred circle means focusing fully on the person in front of you. What can you learn from their story? What can you receive? In sacred circles it is less about responding to others and more about hearing what is truly being said — receiving what you need and filling your cup back up.

It is important to leave judgment at the door. And when judgment arises, notice it. Practice honesty with yourself: what are you truly feeling? This kind of listening — open-hearted, unhurried, without the need to solve — may be one of the most radical and healing things we can do for one another.
Sacred Circles: A Healing Tool for Women
While everyone can benefit, sacred circles can be an especially empowering tool for women. Women are nurturing, intuitive, multitaskers. They carry emotional labor, and hold full, busy minds. Sacred circles invite women to slow down and turn down the mental noise.
An egalitarian style of communication, where every voice matters and there is no pressure to solve anyone’s problem, allows you to share without judgment and fosters real vulnerability. You may have power you do not even realize you have — until you see it in others and have your own reflected back to you.
Sacred circles are a place to share what you are truly going through. I always say, why hold back — let’s just get into it. When each person is deeply heard, connection increases, clarity emerges, and healing can begin.

Any activity that you find relaxing, that reaffirms your sense of self and helps you recharge, can have a meditative, rejuvenating quality…Whatever it is that brings you peace—that makes you feel positive and hopeful about the world—if you bring a meditative awareness to it, you’ll promote healing for your body and soul. And when you feel grounded and optimistic, you’re likely to encounter other wonderful people who love to be around you. – Medical Medium® Revised and Expanded pg. 396-397
Why Sacred Circles Are Needed More Than Ever
This time and place in history is chaotic and unpredictable. We are asked to absorb an immense amount of information, process constant change, and keep moving. The simple act of slowing down to be heard — truly heard — has become countercultural.
Sacred circles are one of my favorite ways to support my community because they remind us that healing does not always require doing more. Sometimes it requires doing less, and being present with one another.
I always say: why hold back — let’s just get into it. That philosophy lives inside every circle I hold.
Your Invitation to Be Held
If something in this post has been speaking to you, I want you to know there is a space being held for you.
Held by the Moon is a sacred circle I host for women. A heart-opening gathering where women can come together to share the stories of reproductive life that shaped them. Birth stories, pregnancy journeys, miscarriages, and fertility challenges. These are the tender chapters that often stay unspoken.
This is a circle, held with intention, softness, and deep respect. It’s a space to be witnessed, to release, to remember, and to heal—together. Every story is welcome. Every emotion has room. Every woman is held.
