Right now (it’s December 2022), the flu, coughs, colds, ear infections, the plague, sinus infections, and sore throats are at EPIC levels! So much so that stores are running out of Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and basic over-the-counter drugs used to treat these conditions at home. ERs are chock full of people, with wait times running into 12 hours or more!
This is an awful situation to be in, especially when you just want to snuggle in bed and take care of yourself or your family and get everyone feeling better.
So what can you do more at home, and what alternative is there if you cannot find basic drugs in the stores?
Enter, Genexa – A cleaner Pharmaceutical Brand.
Notice, I said ‘cleaner’ company for pharmaceuticals, not ‘clean’. Genexa is a brand new company on the market, selling a select few pharmaceuticals with a claim to being ‘clean’.
Ingredient Comparison
I examined the ingredients for one of their products to compare their acetomenaphine extra strength for pain and fever relief as compared with Tylenol extra strength.
Tylenol has many more nasty ingredients like titanium dioxide (toxic heavy metal), artificial color, Red No. 40, polyethylene glycol, carnauba wax, and corn, to name a few.
In the Genexa brand, we can still find corn in the form of maltodextrin and dextrose, but there are no toxic heavy metals or other nasty preservatives. Yes, guar gum, acacia gum, and palm oil are not perfect ingredients, and I look to avoid these in foods, but if I needed a cleaner fever reducer in an emergency with my kids or myself, I would 100% use the Genexa product.
“A recent study found that up to 75% of common medication pills are made up of inactive ingredients. They also found that there were anywhere from 8 to to 30 different inactive ingredients in a given medication. They identified about 1,000 different inactive ingredients across the drugs they looked at, with 38 of those being of potential concern.”

While Genexa is not perfect, they avoid dyes, sugars, sucralose, propylene glycol, sodium benzoate, and many other artificial ingredients. Instead, their inactive ingredients include organic agave syrup, blueberries, citrus extract, and purified water. Genexa is certified gluten-free, non-GMO, lactose-free, and many of its products are certified vegan.
Why I Still Prefer Ibuprofen
My only concern is that overall, I am not a fan of acetomenaphine for pain and fever, I much prefer ibuprofen for these purposes. But, at least not yet, Genexa does not make a clean Ibuprofen version.
Ibuprofen is less harmful to the liver. Acetomenaphine depletes glutathione in the liver and contributes to liver damage.
So while we have a cleaner option, Acetomenaphine, that you can use in a pinch, Ibuprofen is still preferred.
Genexa Kids
Genexa’s kid’s versions of drugs (acetomenaphine, Diphenhydramine (aka Benadryl), and Dextromethorphan HBR (Mucinex)) still contain plenty of natural flavors. It may be worth writing to a company that will listen to clean these products up even more, especially for our kids. Their adult versions of the same meds are cleaner than the original pharmaceutical ones.
Genexa is definitely a company to keep an eye on, and do write to them to ask for cleaner medicine and perhaps even cleaner ibuprofen!
Where To Buy Genexa
One of the best parts about Genexa is that it is easily available. Of course, you can purchase directly from their website. However, they also have a store locator on their website to find other local stores where you can purchase Genexa.
Remember, it’s always a good idea to write to a company you like about products you would love to have them produce for you and also how they could be cleaner… maybe take out all the ‘flavors’ from the kid’s products or create an adult anti-allergy product with no flavors in it!
Homeopathy Alternative
For the purpose of better acute care at home, you may have heard of homeopathic Belladonna for fevers. This remedy is considered the Tylenol equivalent of the homeopathic world. I am oversimplifying, but this remedy can be helpful when dealing with a small or young baby. Homeopathy is another alternative when searching for clean medicine. To learn more about homeopathy and what company I prefer, check out my Homeopathy For Your And Your Family Masterclass. In this class, you will learn…

Bottom Line
It is important to keep up with new companies like Genexa, which are trying to do better in the world. I feel very encouraged that a company like this has emerged. The more feedback we can provide to companies who are honestly trying to make clean products, the better our chance of effecting change.
To your health & happiness,

Many of their products have hidden MSG from natural or organic flavors and some have citric acid too so they’re not as clean as they want you to believe. Many companies pretend to be clean as a marketing strategy to appeal to health conscious people. Real clean companies don’t use ANY processed food ingredients. If they’re using bad ingredients its because they want to get people addicted to their products so they keep coming back for more. It also benefits all the industries that profit from chronic illness.
Ty – not sure if you read the whole article and especially where i said above “Notice, I said ‘cleaner’ company for pharmaceuticals, not ‘clean’. Genexa is a brand new company on the market, selling a select few pharmaceuticals with a claim to being ‘clean’.”
So ibuprofen is less harsh on the liver than paracetamol is that correct? I was always told the opposite
Yes, that is correct Alex.
Thank you for letting us know about this company! My mom has Alzheimer’s and is in a memory care home and gets horrible headaches every day and needs to take Acetaminophen and I hate having them give her something with so many bad ingredients. Her doctor doesn’t want her to take Ibuprofen because of her kidneys. I always have them give her milk thistle with it to help to protect the liver.
Beth, I am so glad this is an option you can try for your mom!! Always helpful to have cleaner options for things we really really need.
This is great news, thank you.
You’re welcome!
hey just curious, nsaids like ibuprofen are known for their affects on the lining of the stomach with chronic use. weighing both downsides and upsides do you still recommend ibuprofen over tylenol? thankyou for sharing the affects and interactions with tylenol and glutathione with the liver. up until now i hadnt read about it. highly appreciate you
Nathonn, my recommendations firstly aren’t talking about chronic use. But if you had to use it ongoing then Ibuprofen has less impact on the liver. Which is important to protect.
Thanks Muneeza for researching and letting us know about this company! I find it encouraging also that companies are trying to create cleaner products. There is power in what consumers demand and the more we as consumers voice what we want, the more things will change. Thanks for giving us another option to consider!
Cherie, yes! There is certainly a demand for it so it’s excellent that someone is doing this!
Dextrose is a type of processed sugar isn’t it and I think maltodextrin is a starch. I don’t know much about the active ingredients found in drugs but don’t all drugs harm the liver and cause depletion of nutrients. Anytime you’re sick your liver has to use stored nutrients to fight infections. If you’re low or depleted in glutathione you can always use a glutathione supplement or even receive IV glutathione from a doctor. I think using the cleanest drugs is best when necessary. I would avoid anything with toxic metals and artificial colors, sweeteners, preservatives and flavors. Keep in mind the more toxic additives a drug has the more difficult it will be to absorb the active ingredient in the drug and all those toxins can end up crossing the blood brain barrier which was only designed to keep out endogenous toxins that our own bodies produce but not toxins created by industries. It would also be best to minimize the dosage of any drug since overdoses of any drug can be fatal and if someone is on multiple drugs there can be negative interactions between drugs. There can also be negative interactions between drugs and supplements. Even homeopathic formulas can contain toxic additives and preservatives such as alcohol and “natural flavors”.
Ty, you are right about all the issues with drugs.
The purpose of this post is not to “encourage” drugs, it’s to have cleaner options available in case of an emergency. For example, a child or adult running 104 F (happened in my practice to multiple clients) who needed to reach for a pharmaceutical to get them out of a dangerous health situation and there is a place for emergency medicine here. Too high a fever can cause delirium or seizures (my inbox is full of parents talking about this happening to their kids) and I am saying that when needed, and when you have tried EVERYTHING else that may not be helping, it’s OK to reach for a drug. And now we have a cleaner option! Yay!
Wow! Thanks for this informative information and for your honest opinion. It’s truly nice to know that there is a pharmaceutical company trying to do good! Thanks, Muneeza for looking out for our health!
Theresa, You are most welcome!! Hopefully, a cleaner version may be helpful!
