I never grew up with Halloween. In the Middle East, in the 80’s and 90’s when I was growing up, it was a thing briefly mentioned in school, but we never celebrated or engaged in it. Even when I lived in London Halloween was not such a big deal. It was only once I moved to the USA that I realized what a HUGE holiday it is here. Even adults dressed up and played roles. This never felt right to me and I have literally never dressed up for Halloween.
When my kids were very little, I succumbed to the social pressure of dressing them up and including them in this holiday and I did it, all the while feeling a huge sense of discomfort around it. It was not until I came across an article years ago talking about the dark side of Halloween and black magic that my intuition and dread around this day was validated.
We are currently in the season of fall and the veil that separates the spirit realm and the physical realm perceptibly thins, which is part of what lends an other-worldly quality to this season. There are also very obvious signs of death, decay, and darkness as the trees shed their leaves, the landscape loses its color, days become shorter, and the change of the clocks all signal that we are headed towards the quieter winter cycle of the year. I find this natural cycle beautiful and captivating and I can see the light of God in this cycle.
Because of this you will find throughout time and across cultures celebrations that honor passed ancestors and saints, recognize the closeness of spirits, and honor story-telling, the harvest, and the transition of seasons. Some examples include celebrations like Diwali, Day of the Dead, and All Saint’s day. In Hinduism during autumn there is a direct recognition of the waning of the light- the Festival of Light is there to remind us of the light in the darker months. These celebrations are rooted in beauty.
On the opposite side of the spectrum this season also has a dark underlying energy to it that can be linked to black magic that manifests during the month of October, Halloween, and the early days of November. It is not the season that makes us vulnerable to the darkness but the ritual sacrifice and ceremony practiced by those in the occult, the dark arts, and the surge in demon activity. Black magic is more commonly used than you think and while its effects can be real you also don’t want to be afraid of it.
Just like the warm and comforting traditions take advantage of the thinning veil, so do the practitioners of dark or black magic. Let’s dive into the history a bit.
Truth always wins over magic. -The Quran Chapter Yunus (Jonas) 10:18
The History of Halloween
The origins of Halloween has strong roots in Celtic pagan traditions. The Celts lived as early as 2,000 years ago in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and northern France. Samhain is a Celtic pagan holiday that honors their New Year, the transition to winter, and the harvest. It occured around November 1st and they would try to ward off spirits that would ruin the harvest, light bonfires, practice story-telling, and create altars. Animals that wouldn’t make it through the winter were slaughtered for food, and other rituals thanking deities for their blessings commenced. It was believed that the space between the living and dead was so thin that spirits could visit home again. This day largely formed the backbone to what is Halloween today and became centered in American tradition when a large number of Irish settlers carrying Celtic pagan traditions escaped famine and migrated to The States in the early 1900s.
A little later in time All Hallows’ Day emerged as a Christian holiday set for November 1st to honor all saints and martyrs that dedicated their lives to God and Christianity. Hallow means to honor as holy – a saint or a holy person. Eventually Samhain merged with All Hallows’ Day (also called All Saint’s Day) and was celebrated the night before on October 31st and called All Hallows’ Eve, which is where the word Halloween derives from.

No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord. -Isaiah 54:17
The Black Magic Connection
As you can see, Halloween became a mixing pot of different celebrations… why is this important to understanding Black Magic, though? This is to demonstrate that spirit and physical realms during this time become closer and that there is a long tradition of recognizing this. Some people take advantage of this with evil intentions, though, and use black magic in a more focused way during this season. As with the ever raging spiritual war between the light and the dark, something that was a beautiful honoring of the change of season in a cycle has been in part co-opted by darkness as their ‘holy’ day.
What was once an opportunity to honor the transition from summer to winter, the harvest, the thinning veil, and saints and martyrs, became more sinister when placed in the wrong hands: darker magic, ill intentions, and evil spirits became represented. Murder and destruction became hallowed. This day has been taken by dark and satanic religions to be their highest of high holy days in the entire calendar.
I believe that Halloween is calling to Hallow that which is dark, and from darkness and evil and turning on its head the idea that only God is Hallowed. The Lord’s prayer written in Matthew 6, states “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be thy name” and to truly Hallow God’s name is the very opposite of what is behind the darkness of Halloween today.
There are people that believe that the key to getting what they want in life is through black magic. Black magic is in part wishing ill on people, calling in evil, and using spells, hexes, curses, or fear-based tactics to manipulate others. For the dark and evil worshippers, the satanic cult followers, the holiest day of the year is Halloween. This is because it is more socially acceptable to dwell on evil during this time of year. To a satanic cult worshipper only evil is hallowed on this night- you can only imagine what this might mean therefore in practice and manifest into real life, especially when humans and demons are working together.
In his audio book, Angels, Demons and Spiritual Tools, author Anthony William shares in detail the workings of the demon world and of the fallen angels. This has validated my intuition about demons and dark forces and confirmed to me that when my senses are on edge, I should pay attention to it. My daughters have often told me about how creepy Halloween has felt to them. Children are so connected to their intuition as well and we should pay attention and heed their warnings rather than push them into situations they are not comfortable with.
Unfortunately, Halloween is greatly centered around kids who are thus exposed to darker themes such as feeding kids unhealthy candy, promoting fearful imagery and scary stories, gruesome costumes and decorations, touring haunted houses, playing with ouija boards, and watching horror movies. There are a lot of obstacles to try to maneuver around during this holiday. You want your kids to stay sound: filled with healthy food and not sick from candy, not having nightmares from horror movies and stories, not filled with evil imagery, or even exposed to evil rituals or the effects of black magic.
Black Magic or the “Evil Eye” is Referenced in the Holy Scriptures
- From the Quran, Surah Falaq (the day break) 1:5, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak….And from the evil of darkness when it settles, And from the evil of the blowers in knots [a practice of black magic], And from the evil of an envier when he envies [evil eye].”
- In the Bible, Deuteronomy: 18:9- 14, “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God…”
Leaning Into The Light
The easiest way to protect yourself is to say the word LIGHT out aloud. This instantly connects you to the light of God and to the light from above. Black magic only has power over you IF you fear it. So instead of fear, know that by calling in the force of light, God, and Higher Power, you can overcome dark forces…learn to lean into your faith as a shield and defense against the darkness.
Protect Yourself Spiritually
- If you are Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist or from any other faith – go back to the light that you are taught about in your faith or verses from your own faith and surround yourself with God’s love and His true light and His messages.
- In the Quran there are verses at the very end of that are like prayers for protection against darkness, evil, and black magic. They are in the chapters Surah Al Ahad, Surah Annaas, Surah Al Falaq and Surah Al Kaafiruun.
- If you don’t ascribe to any faith in particular, know that a higher power is always there to support you. If you believe in the light (the good in the world), focus on that and say light again and again.
- Pray! Pray to God and ask Him to send you angelic support from the Angel of Light and Angel of Mercy
In addition to the fear of ghosts, some people have a dread of black magic and other black arts. Many people tell me that somebody they know is using black magic on them. I say to them, “You are sitting in the castle of God. No one can harm you if you truly believe in God.” But when you believe in the negative thought that somebody is injuring you, you give him the power to do so. Suppose someone is sending you a wrong thought, and you accept it; it will hurt you. But you do not have to accept evil ideas. Don’t be afraid of malicious persons,- no one can affect you unless you are fearful. Fear and keeping the mind blank allow evil to enter; but when you say, “God is with me,” nothing but good can come to you from the thoughts of others. Wrap yourself in the thought of God. His holy Name is the Power of all powers. Like a shield it deflects all negative vibrations. – Man’s Eternal Quest by Paramahansa Yogananda, pg. 279
Protect Yourself Physically, Mentally, and Emotionally
- There are a lot of dark themed media and shows at this time, so be mindful of what you “consume” whether it’s TV, movies, food, books, music, and stories. Why? Your soul is listening. Keep your soul focused on the light.
- Find alternative ways to celebrate Halloween (gentler suggestions for your children other than other candy and exposure to themes of horror): read my suggestions here for a healthy Halloween
- Protect yourself physiologically with the Medical Medium Negative Energy Exposure Shot– a great way to stay strong when you don’t have a choice to be around negative energy. It’s perfect for Halloween if you don’t have a choice but to participate in the activities.
- Start a Medical Medium cleanse and feel the positive effects on your mental health. Negative energy is less effective when you’re on one of his cleanses. As Anthony William says, these aren’t man-made cleanses they are cleanses from above.
- Juice celery- this is a great way to cut through negativity. Aim for 16-32 ounces.
- Journal about your experiences to reflect on and think through them
