Why I Bought the Oura Ring
I first bought my Oura Ring six years ago, during some of the most serious years of my illness where I was recovering from multiple symptoms. At the time, I had inconsistent sleep and wanted to better understand this. I have always been in tune with my body, but with a busy family, business, and a body that needed more attention, I decided investing in the Oura Ring for the metrics it offers was worth it to learn what was happening with my health.
It is a small device I wear on my finger that tracks 20 different bio metrics, all information gleaned from my body! These metrics include heart rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen levels, breathing rate, sleep efficiency, sleep stages, and respiratory rate to name a few. It connects to the Oura Ring app and displays these metrics in an easy-to-read way that also tracks over time. I wear it on airplane mode so that it is not emitting EMFs until I connect it to the app via bluetooth. Airplane mode means that bluetooth is off during the day while I’m wearing it, reducing my exposure to EMFs.
The Oura Ring gave me clarity when I needed it most, and now, during this 100+ day cleanse, it continues to be one of my most important health tools. I have been tracking my metrics during this time and wanted to share them with you!
Why Safer Tracking Matters
Many people rely on diagnostic tests to understand their health, but there are risks: repeated blood draws, radiation from imaging, and the stress of invasive procedures. While testing has its place, it’s also valuable to find safer, daily options for tracking our health.
That’s where the Oura Ring shines. It quietly gathers data while you sleep and throughout the day, providing insights into your body’s stress, resilience, and recovery—without any needles or risks. It’s good to find options that help us track our health safely.
Metrics on Sleep
The Oura Ring offers lots of metrics on sleep- deep sleep, light sleep, and REM sleep. It also tracks resting heart rate (RHR) and breathing at night. Some people have a good RHR and some people don’t, where their heart is beating faster at night. And through Medical Medium information we can understand why such a symptom would cause a problem as it can indicate an underlying viral attack in the body.
The Readiness Score and Sleep
One of the features I find most fascinating is the Readiness Score. It combines data from your resting heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), body temperature, and breathing patterns to show how recovered you really are. HRV is a measure of the variation in time between heartbeats. Even if your heart rate is steady at 60 beats per minute (bpm), for example, the actual spacing between the beats is not perfectly even. One beat might be 1.05 seconds apart and the next .95 seconds.
The variability is controlled by your autonomic nervous system. Parasympathetic (rest and digest) activity increases HRV while sympathetic (fight or flight) decreases HRV. Simply put, a high HRV means your body is resilient and recovered while a low HRV means your body may be under stress, fatigued, or not fully recovered. While it sounds like having a high HRV all the time would be the most ideal, what actually matters more is tracking your personal trends over time.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
- Even if you sleep nine hours, your readiness can still be low. That tells me it wasn’t just about the length of sleep, but also the quality.
- Low readiness often correlates with high heart rate and breathing at night, hidden stressors during the day, or dietary choices that the body hasn’t handled well
- High readiness shows that my system is resilient, balanced, and ready to take on the day
For me, readiness is a clear metric I can use to measure my adrenal health. Too many of us underestimate how much stress we carry daily and how our adrenals are affected. The Oura Ring helps to make it visible through objective numbers, and from there you can adjust your protocols to support your body.
Using the Oura Ring During My Cleanse
When I began my Advanced 3:6:9 Liver Rescue cleanse in April, I was first connecting my Oura with sleep and resilience scores. I noticed my sleep and resilience scores were consistently low. That was a wake-up call: despite all my efforts, my body was still under significant stress.
But within one month of cleansing, those same scores climbed to the strong and exceptional range. That shift showed me that the cleanse wasn’t just making me feel better—it was measurably transforming my recovery, stress resilience, and overall health. This was the result of the Medical Medium® Advanced 3:6:9 cleanse! I’m sharing this to show why it is important to do some long-term cleansing and providing you a scientific basis for it.
Tracking My Supplements
Even with supplements you can see the changes on the ring. I was playing around with lowering my levels of ashwagandha and licorice root, which are adrenal support herbs, and each time I did my resilience ratings were always lower, even after testing it five times! This really showed me that my supplements are giving me more support than I think they are giving me, and my ring is telling me that.
Also, being on the Advanced 3:6:9 cleanse, my intake of supplements has reduced significantly overall and I was not taking many when I first started. I shared with you the changes with the adrenal support supplements but I also want you to know that you are likely to see a change in readings even with anti-viral and immune support supplements. All the stress metrics, heart rate, and body temperature metrics improve when taking anti-viral supplements. So if you needed a ‘scientific’ reason to prove that supplements are working for you, you would be able to see it in the metrics of your ring.
This information directly impacted my decision to keep up my supplements, despite being on a powerful cleanse, because my body was showing it needs that support. Taken a step further, I feel like this is a function of a low viral load that is having an impact… yet more clarity brought to me by my Oura Ring.
Eating Better
I have found that using the ring can also help you to eat better. Whenever I have eaten any amount of overt fat in the past, because the Oura Ring measures your body temperature at night and offers a differential, I was able to correlate my body temperature going up by 0.1-0.5 of a degree.
This is your liver heating up to process the fat through. Just a little bit of avocado and I would notice my body heating up. I stopped the fat and the metrics went down… proving that the ring is such a great way to help measure the impact of eating fat on the body. The higher the body temperature at night the lower the readiness score and resilience scores the next day.
Tracking Stress
I also track my stress levels. At the end of the day, if I have had a more stressful day, when I open the app it will notify me of this and ask me to reflect on what caused me stress. When I get those notifications that I’ve been under more stress it helps me remember to eat more glucose and mineral salts, effectively reminding me that every day is different and that we all need to adjust our self-care practices accordingly. This ring is great because if you have brain fog, neurological fatigue, or other factors distracting you in life, this ring tracks and presents your metrics for you in an easily digestible way.
Long-Term Benefits I’ve Experienced
After six years of using the Oura Ring, here’s what stands out most:
- Resting heart rate and breathing at night give me real insight into my recovery. And in the 6 years since I have had the ring, I have had a significant reduction in RHR and breathing rates at night.
- Readiness scores have helped me see the difference between “enough sleep” and “quality sleep.” My readiness scores were in the 60’s when I first started wearing the ring. Today, my readiness scores are in the 80’s and 90’s.
- Stress tracking has made me more mindful of what actually drains me during the day. If nothing overtly stressful has happened in my day and I have experienced more than my usual share of stressful thoughts, that too will impact my heart rate and breathing rate and the ring can pick up on it.
- Resilience scores improved dramatically during my cleanse, proving to me that these lifestyle shifts have had tangible, long-term benefits.
Resilience scores are measured using the 14 day averages of your daytime stress load, and daytime and nighttime recovery. It reflects your ongoing balance of physiological stress (that can come from life AND from pathogens) rather than just a single day of data. In the chart below taken as a snapshot from my Oura ring app, you can see that my resilience levels steadily climbed as I got into the cleanse. I have never had an “exceptional” resilience score except for when I have been doing this Advanced 3:6:9 cleanse.
The Oura Ring has been a steady companion in my healing journey. It empowers me to track my health in a safe, daily, and consistent way. I think it can help make great shifts in your health. You can use it to measure the impacts of food, supplements, sleep, stress, and adrenal health, and many other things.
The metrics you should focus on will be different for everybody, and this will be better defined by why you bought it in the first place (for me it was sleep, so that is what I focused on). You can also show the information to any naysayers and skeptics in your life to prove to them that you are being smart and tracking your health with scientific data.
During this 100+ day cleanse, the data has helped show me conclusively that I was stressed, my recovery was compromised, and I needed to re-calibrate. And now, with improved scores and better resilience, I know the cleanse is working—not just because I feel better, but because my body is showing me and I can read the results through these metrics.
Many people ask for my referral code which only works on the 4th generation ring but before they run out, you can get a perfectly good 3rd generation ring which is currently half the price of the newer version! But you cannot use the link for older version of the ring.
To your health, happiness, and peace,
Muneeza
